Jack is a troubled teen who’s in trouble with the law again. His parole officer is tired of his punishments not working, so he’s not off to the road cleanup crew this time. Art (Reginald VelJohnson) assigns him to an animal rescue shelter. He starts out with his usual bad attitude, but when he learns that the shelter is closing and the dogs will be transferred to the kill shelter, he finds out that they have the older dogs which are much less likely to be adopted. He and his new friends set out on a mission to try to get the 12 dogs remaining adopted in the 12 days remaining before Christmas and the shelter closes.
It’s a good concept for a film, but unfortunately the idea has been done far better many times before, and this one is pretty much of a mess. I don’t feel like most of the cast was up for the job, and it shows. The writing isn’t that good either, and it’s filled with all the usual Christmas dog movie cliches. Every one can’t be a hit, and I felt this one really missed the mark by a mile, although the dogs are pretty cute and I’m sure the doggie lovers will enjoy that part of it for sure. It wasn’t horrible, just not good enough for me to recommend for everyone. But those who really love dogs will enjoy the animal actors here, as they were better than their human counterparts most of the time.
