For Christmas vacation, most kids have somewhere to go to spend the holidays. But this group of kids with very little in common have to end up staying at school over the holidays working at a special exhibit in the college fine arts gallery. But when they decide at the last minute to have an impromptu Christmas party at the gallery, they stumble into a trio of bumbling thieves trying to rob the exhibit. Under the guidance of the nasty Dean Erma (Vivica A Fox) they hold the kids hostage. During the hours that they’re being held, they found out that they do have more in common than they thought. As they bond, the gain the Christmas spirit and gain the courage to work together to fight back to the bandits. This night will be a Christmas Eve these kids will never forget.
This is another new holiday film in 2011. It’s not the greatest of them. It’s quite silly. Vivica A Fox is a great actress, but her evil bad lady in this film is mostly silly. The three robbers are inept boobs, trying to be the three stooges. In the past we have had a number of bumbling crooks. I have gained an appreciation for Don Knotts and Tim Conway as “The Apple Dumpling Gang” after watching these guys. They’re just plain annoying and silly. The students are ok, but “The Breakfast Club” they’re not. All in all, we’re left with a mildly humorous holiday tale with little substance. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t really care much at the end. Some laughs, but not much else.
