The government has determined that the Avengers are too dangerous to be left unchecked, and they set out to pass a law to limit their powers and only allow them to use superpowers upon the request of the government. Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) is determined to follow the new law as the mutants create fear, and as long as the run free, people will challenge them time after time. Captain America, (Chris Evans) on the other hand feels that protecting citizens is their ultimate goal, and the government cannot be trusted to make decisions for them. They all choose sides as Iron Man and Captain America become bitter enemies and try to destroy each other. But perhaps another person is afraid of challenging the Avengers on his own, but want to provoke them to wipe out each other.

This was a long awaited film, and brings back most of the Marvel characters, although I felt it was a bit of a disappointment. First of all, I can’t really keep all the different comic book superheroes straight and remembering who is with whom is too much for me. Not that I’m a fan of comic book superheroes in the first place. The battles were good, and it was nice to see all the different characters together. But the story was too hokey for my liking, and at over 2 1/2 hours, it still didn’t seem to really go anywhere. It seems that sometimes when there are too many characters, there is no way to pay justice to each of them fully. That may be the reason why I found it lacking in depth. All in all it seemed pointless to me. So I wasn’t a big fan of this particular film. This film was out at the same time as “X-Men: Apocalypse” and between two I chose to see the X-Men. I’m glad I did, as I felt it was the better of the two. However, since this film is now out on DVD, it’s worth watching since it was not all that bad, especially if you’re a fan of this genre.

Director Clint Eastwood brings this biopic to the screen of the story of Chesley Sullenberger (Tom Hanks), pilot of the US Air commercial airliner that was forced to land in the Hudson River in New York City on a very cold January day with 155 people on board counting passengers and flight crew. All 155 were rescued due to a lot of luck and a lot of skill, but mostly a lot of hard work by the emergency first responders on the ground. Based on Sully’s book “Miracle on the Hudson” a great deal of the film deals with the aftermath of the event and the difficulties faced by Sully and his First Mate Jeff Skiles (Aaron Eckhart).

Clint Eastwood is one master at his craft. The way this film is put together from the first frame to the last is a work of art. With a mix of the events of those few minutes to the desperation in trying to get to the truth when everyone seems against him, this is a case of David vs. Goliath in epic proportions. The insurance company lost a plane, and they were very anxious to find blame somewhere. Riveting performances from everyone, from Hanks (who was fantastic) and Eckhart, to Laura Linney who played Sully’s wife, all the way down to the flight attendants, everyone did an excellent job. The realism was frightening. It was one of those films where you hold your breath for long stretches at the seconds seem like hours. Extremely well done, and a great film. I recommend this to anyone whether you remember that day or not. Very good job, guys.

A group of friends in a small Louisiana town witness one of their group’s grandmother who is killed in a car accident. She’s retrieving a secret package, and when one of the townsfolk tries to steal the case, he is also killed. Turns out grandma is a well respected voodoo leader, and the guy who was killed along with her comes back to life and sets out to kill everyone in the group. What follows is a Jason, Mike Myers type of serial killer who is undead, and pure evil being chasing, and being chased by the young people using all their tricks.

This is a B horror film, but a lot better than the one I saw yesterday. This one has been around a while, since 2005, but is making its rounds again this season. Featuring some well known TV actors at the time 10 years ago, and some up and coming stars as well, it’s actually very scary and very well made. With layers of monsters, snakes, voodoo, and zombies, it’s got a lot of power and it just keeps building and building up to the very end. With excellent creepy locations, the background makes things even worse. There is a lot of heart put into making this, and I give the team credit for the effort that was put into making this one of the creepiest little known films I’ve seen in a long time. This is certainly one that’s off the radar (It was originally titled “Backwater”), but if you can find this one it will give you nightmares! It was nice to stumble into one so well put together on such a small film. If you can find this one, give it a shot.

Five friends are on a road trip to a music festival, but when they stop for a bite, they find a little girl of about 7 who is all alone in the parking lot. After discussion they decide to give her a ride home safely, but when they stop at the old farmhouse, they soon find themselves battling the forces of evil just to survive in this horror film.

This move is full of problems, from lack of money, to a devoted, but weak cast, to reusing the same plots again and again. But by the same token, it is really creepy. It’s dark and the suspense is really pretty good. I mean, it’s certainly a well used plot for sure, but if you don’t expect too much, it is quite possible to enjoy this film. Remember, there’s not much new that you can dream up that hasn’t been done. So you change around the characters, make this one a little girl, and you have the hook to build a creepy house story. Don’t go into this thinking it’s a great new masterpiece of a story, because it’s not. But if you have some time to kill watching a movie to creep the heck out of you, this is not the worst you can do by any means. When people get together who really want to make a movie, and give it their best, God bless them for keeping new blood (pun intended) to the film business. I didn’t hate it, Didn’t love it either. But it was ok to watch.
