This documentary covers the experience of the masked characters and extras that were hired to perform in the original Star Wars film. Though they had momentary fame due to the expected popularity of the movie, they had different experiences in the long term. But no doubt it had a life changing effect on their lives. This is their stories of how they were chosen to participate and how it has effected their lives.

I know that when Star Wars was made, they thought it would be just a little film, perhaps a TV movie. Even George Lucas himself had no idea of the massive impact this movie would have on the world. I was looking forward to this movie and was anxious to see it, but I was sorely disappointed after watching it. This was one of the most boring pieces of film I have ever seen. I am not sure why, but there was just nothing interesting here in the least. At just over 90 minutes, it felt like hours of people talking and talking about nothing much. Some continued as fairly decent actors and artists, but most spend their time reminiscing the past and hoping for something to happen to bring them the fame they feel they deserve. Imagine the poor guy who did all the acting as Darth Vadar in the plastic mask. He did all of the dialog, but was told that they would have to replace all the dialog because of the muffling effect of talking with a mask on his head. He naturally thought that he was going to fly to California to replace the dialog, but it ended up being James Earl Jones. Now this poor fellow makes most of his money from star Trek fan conventions telling people that he was Darth Vadar. All in all, besides boring me to death, it was rather pitiful as well. I am really sorry to say that I really did not enjoy this film and I can’t recommend it.

Columbia Pictures, Ombra Films, Weimaraner Republic Pictures,

Blake Lively, Oscar Jaenada

Nancy (Blake Lively) misses her mother who recently died from cancer. She is looking for some alone time, and she just quit medical school and fled to Mexico searching for a hidden “secret” beach that her mother loved. But things go wrong when she runs into a very angry and persistent shark who would like more than anything to have her for lunch!

This is a solo shot for Blake Lively who really throws herself at it will all her abilities. It’s a very hard role. Stranded at a remote beach with little hope of survival. This is a highly suspenseful film, with beautiful scenery and a very ornery shark. It’s a tough role to play, with lots of activity and a whole range of emotions. This is hardly classified as horror, yet it’s not a mystery, though it is very suspenseful. All in all it’s a roller-coaster ride of epic proportions. The packed audience was completely silent for long periods when there was little sound on the screen, and it was kind of eerie. Suddenly the shark would appear, and everyone was screaming again. All in all, this is a pretty good film. I really enjoyed the suspense and found a lot of times, I was holding my breath without knowing it I was so into the story. That is rare for me, and and an interesting experience. It’s not very often I get sucked into a film so completely, but this is an immersive movie, in more ways than one. I really liked it and I would like to recommend this one.

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), Warner Bros., New Line Cinema,

Sylvester Stallone, Michael B. Jordan, Tessa Thompson, Phylicia Rashad, Tony Bellew

Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) is old. He’s had a long full life, but his love Adrian is gone, and his coach Mickey. Rocky’s living a lonely life till a young man turns up asking him to train him. Turns out the kid is Adonis Johnson (Michael B Jordan) who wants to make it on his own, but is actually the son of Apollo Creed, a former Russian champ who fought with Rocky and who highly respected each other. But sadly Apollo was killed in the ring back in 1974. Rocky doesn’t train boxers anymore, but he Adonis convinces him to take him under his wing and teach him what he knows, mostly for Rocky’s respect for his father’s talent and courage in the ring.

This is one of those movies that you HAVE to see because of the continuation of a story that has been going on for decades. We have to see how Rocky has turned out and how he’s doing. So for that fact, it’s a very worthwhile experience. Now if you have never seen a Rocky film, then this is not a good place to start, as it’s only a mediocre boxing film, but it is a fond look back at a character America loved, and it is very nostalgic. I was not anxious to run out to see this in the theater on the first weekend, nor did I push it to the front of my queue the day it was released on DVD either, as truthfully I was not that psyched to see it, but I still am very glad it bubbled to the top and I got to finally see it. If you have any fond memories of Rocky Balboa, and you haven’t seen this one, then what are you waiting for? Get out and get this and give it a spin. Thanks Rock.
