It’s been nearly a dozen years since the disaster struck original journey failed and was lost, a deep-space ship is on it’s way to a distant planet with over 2,000 colonists, in order to populate this new world. Mid journey, however, Walter (Michael Fassbender) a robot who is manning the ship while everyone is in hibernation decides it’s necessary to wake up the crew because of an emergency. When they are about ready to head back to sleep, they intercept a message from a closer planet that seems really habitable. Thinking it might save them a lot of time, they decide to head there, only to learn it’s a huge trap and what started out as a colony mission has now turned into a search and rescue mission with heavy casualties.

I must admit that I have never been a fan of the Alien movies. I saw them when they came out, and I admit they were pretty scary and all, but I just never got involved in the story. When this sequel came out, I was not all that excited to see it, so I waited for it to come out on DVD> That may have been a big mistake, as this was a surprisingly good movie. This movie is very Star Trek-ky, but much more intense. The story was very solid and really kept me glued to the screen. I found the action to be very exciting, the battles were really good, and the level of suspense is set to vary high! I was very pleased with this film, and I thought it was very well done. The sets were excellent, and the planet was beautiful, and ugly at the same time, and though the ending was telegraphed a mile away. it still was enjoyable from start to finish. Fassbender stole this movie, but you’ll see why when you watch it. If you like sci-fi that is very suspenseful and mighty scary, you should watch this one. I actually enjoyed this sequel more than any of the other films in the series, really.

Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE), Media Rights Capital (MRC), Imagine Entertainment,

Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey, Tom Taylor, Claudia Kim, Fran Kranz, Jackie Earle Haley, Dennis Haysbert, Abbey Lee, Nicholas Hamilton, Katheryn Winnick, José Zúñiga, Ben Gavin, Michael Barbieri

Jake (Tom Taylor) is an usual young man. He has vivid dreams of a large tower in the center of the universe that is under attack, and he knows something terrible will happen if it is destroyed. He also sees a Man in Black, Walter (Matthew McConaughey) who is out to destroy it. But he also dreams of a man who is out to fight the Man in Black, Roland (Idris Elba), aka. The Gunslinger, who is out to destroy Walter and wave the universe. It turns out that Jake may have an imp9ortant role in stabilizing the universe and saving everything from a horrible ending.

This movie is based on a series of books by Stephen King, so I knew going in it was going to be a bit weird. It was a rather tough concept to fathom, but once you get into the action part of the movie, and get past the long setup, thing really start to click. I enjoyed this movie a lot, and seeing Matthew McConaughey as the ultimate villain here was quite a treat. It turns out he never says, Alright, Alright, Alright, and he is very un-Matthew McConaughey. Truth is, this may be my favorite role I have ever seen him play. Idris Elba is also very impressive as Gunslinger, and he’s awesome as always. But I thought Tom taylor did a really good job playing his role, and it made the whole movie. Special effects are very well done, and it’s an impressive story. All in all, this movie really clicks, and I really enjoyed it a lot. I can recommend this for all ages, as it’s a great story for young and old. Well, maybe not the real little kids who might get scared of some of the action scenes. All in all, this is a good movie and I recommend it.

Columbia Pictures, Marvel Studios, Pascal Pictures,

Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Robert Downey Jr., Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, Gwyneth Paltrow, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Bokeem Woodbine, Tyne Daly, Martin Starr, Hannibal Buress, Abraham Attah, Kenneth Choi, Selenis Leyva, Angourie Rice, Garcelle Beauvais, Michael Chernus, Michael Mando, Logan Marshall-Green, Jennifer Connelly, Martha Kelly

After all his exciting adventures with the Avengers in the last film, Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man (Tom Holland) is back home in high school trying to get along. He’s not the most popular kid in the class, and he’s always sneaking out on Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) who is his legal guardian but has no knowledge of his secret identity. But Peter notices something strange going on when he spots some out of this world weapons keep showing up and a spooky flying monster named Vulture (Michael Keaton) is behind it all. Peter keeps digging even though not only will Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.) not believe him, but he tries to stop him from fooling around on his own, so Peter has to try to solve the mystery on his own, although he may not survive the week.

To tell the truth, I am getting really weary of all the Superhero movies this summer. It’s been one after another after another, and I think I’m not the only one who’s getting tired of them from the box office numbers this summer. I didn’t expect much from this film, and I was really expecting to wait until it came out on DVD, but my wife and her sister really wanted to see it, so they took me along. It wasn’t as bad as I expected, and I was somewhat surprised at how interesting it was. I wasn’t blown away, and there are some weaknesses in the story, and Tom Holland just isn’t strong enough to carry the film. Cameos by a few of the Avengers and their backup crew don’t do much to help either. The story is kind of weak, and the acting is kind of weak, and so that takes away from the overall enjoyment. If you’re a real Spidey fan, then you probably like the older films a lot better. If you love the mix-up of Avenger characters in each other’s movies, then you might dig that, but all in all this is just a mediocre movie, and I’ve seen it all before. I would have been happy to wait for DVD for this one.

Primate Pictures, RatPac-Dune Entertainment, Warner Bros.,

Michael Peña, Dax Shepard, Jessica McNamee, Adam Brody, Ryan Hansen, Justin Chatwin, Kristen Bell, Vincent D’Onofrio, Rosa Salazar, Maya Rudolph, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Richard T. Jones, Jane Kaczmarek, Adam Rodriguez, Vida Guerra

Ponch (Michael Pena) is an undercover FBI man looking for dirty cops in the California Highway Patrol. He’s partnered up with a brand new rookie Jon (Dax Shephard) who is the oldest rookie in CHP history. Jon is a former X-Games star, but his failing marriage to Karen (Kristin Bell) causes him to tryout as a policeman to try to win her back. But the corruption runs deep and they don’t know who they can trust as they try to locate the loot and the dirty cops behind the heist. This is based on the popular 80’s TV show CHiPs, and even features a cameo by the original Ponch, Erik Estrada.

They took a different approach with this movie, not really following the story of the tv series, but rather making a comedy satirical parody of the TV show which was a little unintentionally funny in the first place. This one is strictly tongue in cheek and doesn’t even try to take itself seriously. Maybe that wasn’t a bad idea since the history of TV shows turned into feature films has been mostly dreadful. This one didn’t take itself too seriously and was actually really funny. They could go for jokes mocking the original series and beef it up with crazy R rated humor which differentiates it from the TV show. Michael and Dax have fun mocking their characters, and both are cartoonishly over the top performances. The supporting cast is really good too and help them a lot to bring humor to the story. And best of all it’s only a teensy bit over an hour and a half so it doesn’t drag out the joke too far. All in all, I think it was a nice homage to the original TV series done, as I stated, tongue in cheek, but with TLC as well. It wasn’t a bad break from serious movies, and was more like one of the many parody movies with Leslie Nielsen or maybe Charlie Sheen. It wasn’t bad, and worth the time I spent on it.

Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films (EFO Films), Hat and Cat Productions, Ingenious Media,

Arnold Schwarzenegger, Scoot McNairy, Maggie Grace, Martin Donovan, Hannah Ware, Mariana Klaveno, Kevin Zegers, Larry Sullivan, Glenn Morshower, Christopher Darga

Jake (Scoot McNairy) is an air traffic controller. There is a perfect storm. They work at a small tower in Europe and direct planes from one tower to another. There are only two men on duty, and one man decides to take a nap to catch up on some needed sleep leaving Jake alone in the tower. That night a repairman is working on one of their systems which makes Alex’s job a bit harder. Due to circumstances beyond his control, a terrible air crash happens. Jake is devastated at the crash and blames himself, but a hard worker, Roman (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is at the airport waiting for his wife and daughter to arrive on one of the planes taht went down. Roman, too, is devastated and tries to work through his grief, but instead decides that it’s his duty to exact revenge on the person that took his wife and daughter away from him. This is a dramatic story based on the real event, that looks closely into the grief and suffering of two men who were affected by the same event, but in vastly different ways.

This is a very interesting story, based on true events of an awful crash that was caused by a perfect storm of events. One small change could have avoided the whole thing. The movie is very gripping and pulls you into the story, but it’s not a lot of action and events, but develops slowly and carefully as we really get into the heads of the people involved and the feelings and emotions they face. This is not an air crash movie, it’s more of a character study, although the crash is a major part of the story. There are a lot of people who feel this film is too slow, so be prepared for what you’re going to see. You are really, as I said before, going to get into the heads of both men, and so it does take a lot of effort to let us see into their psyche so clearly, and as a result, it does have to unwrap slowly, and it does fully take us through the tragedy and we are able to understand that the crash was over quickly for those who were on the plane, but the agony and grief lasts long for those who are left behind. I’ve seen many stories in the movies and on TV about plane crashes, but none that tackled the suffering of the survivors better than this one did. I enjoyed this film, and would recommend it to you if you think you would be interested in the “Aftermath” of a true story like this is.
