Malcolm (Marlon Wayans) is back. After he exorcized the demons from his ex-girlfriend, and still grieving her loss, but he’s ready to try to move on with his new girlfriend Megan (Jaime Pressley) and her two children. But when they move into the house of their dreams, paranormal events start up again, and Malcolm comes to the rescue once again trying to save himself and his new family from that strange goings on.

This is another Wayans parody of all the recent horror films. They’re all here. As long as they keep cranking out the scary films, the Wayans family is going to keep making fun on them. This one is just what you’d expect and you either love these or hate them. For me, it’s a good distraction to spend 90 minutes or so laughing at all the references to the recent crop. For some people, they are stupid and silly and a waste of time. So it’s up to you. But what you see is what you get. It’s a bunch of clever silliness paying tribute to how dumb all these horror slasher films are. It’s raunchy, violent, and very funny at the same time. Marlon has some good backup here. There’s Cedric the Entertainer playing his usual con man type character, and Gabriel (Fluffy) Iglesias as the Mexican neighbor always putting him on. Both bring a lot of comedy expertise to the movie. So there’s no groundbreaking comedy here, just clever banter about the state of the recent paranormal world.

Adam Bell (Jake Gyllenhaal) is a boring history professor living a humdrum life with his live in girlfriend Mary (Melanie Laurent). While watching a rental movie, he sees an actor who looks exactly like him. Curious, he tries to find everything he can find out about Anthony (Jake Gyllenhall) who is an actor in Toronto. As he becomes more interested (obsessed) with Anthony, he arranges a meeting where they find out they are absolute twins of each other, including the same scars. But their personalities seem to be very different.

This is a very, very strange movie. But it is a very good story, although I do think most people are going to hate it. It is a very weird story. It bends your mind! There have only been a few films with this kind of mind bending storytelling. The ending of The Sixth Sense and The Village, two (in my opinion) M. Night Shaymalan films twisted my mind. Certainly I didn’t see the twist in A Beautiful Mind coming, and I was completely disappointed in myself that I never saw that coming. There have been some others. But these films twisted you up in knots and then blasted you with the truth suddenly and you came away saying WOW! This film is NOT going to tell you the truth, or let you know how any of this is possible. I struggled for days after watching this thinking it was the biggest waste of opportunity in film making ever! The focus of this story is WAY off. Here we have a situation where there are two guys who do not know each other who are identical in so many ways that obviously something very strange is going on. All the way through I was looking for the big payoff. It never came. The ending knocked me down, but I was left thinking “What the hell was that?” There was no payoff. But I thought and I read and reviewed what was going on, and finally it hit me. I don’t want to give away any secrets, but think long on hard about how two guys could be so alike but so different. Think of how they’re alike and how they’re different. After having fought my way through this I found that this was actually a very good film, but in a way far different than what I expected. This is a very thoughtful story, and if you don’t like to think long and hard, but like your movies tied up neatly with a bow, then you’ll probably hate this movie and you should avoid it like the plague. But if you like a mental puzzle and a major challenge, you may find that this is really an awesome story. So far the vast majority of people I have talked to hated it, so watcher beware!

David Portnoy (Kodi Smit-McPhee) is a teen who is hooked to the hobby of birding. His father Donald (James LeGros) is about to get remarried, which is really messing with David’s head when he suddenly sees a rare bird that is supposed to be extinct. After trying to verify the find, he and a bunch of friends head off on an epic road trip to find the bird again to prove his discovery on the eve of his father’s wedding, and he’s supposed to be the best man.

This is a rather interesting film about birding. It’s actually the second film I’ve watched on the subject recently, and that’s disturbing as birding is supposed to be a really boring hobby for nerds. Well, I guess David does pass as a nerd, but the movie really isn’t about birding. It’s a story about the pain a young man feels at the loss of his mother, and the added stress of seeing his Dad appear to forget her for his hot new young girlfriend. It’s about who his friends really are, and there’s a lot of self assessment in this film. Each of the characters has to look at themselves to see who they really are. Not a big blockbuster movie, this is a small independent type film, but not a bad one. It’s got a decent amount of heart, and the road trip really has it’s excitement as they chase this elusive goose. This was a relatively interesting film to watch and it’s not a bad story, and as a bonus, it’s got Ben Kingsley!

A beautiful alien woman (Scarlett Johansson) drives through the streets of Scotland in a large dark van, picking up strangers, lonely men, looking for some company. She leads them off to a dark place where they are swallowed up by a large liquid pool.

Well, friends, that’s about all you’re going to get because that’s about all you’re given. This is one of those mysterious, “what the hell is going on” type of film. I was not impressed. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t enjoy it a smidgen either. I found it really dull. There is nothing much going on, no answers, and nothing to show after wasting a couple hours on this. Now, naturally, the internet is full of people theorizing and pondering over what it all means, and what the symbolism is all about. My problem is I have no basis to start with. I do like science fiction and horror, but I hardly think this film falls into either category. I found it vapid and pointless and just a waste of time.

Now that all that is out in the open, there are a bunch of fans of this movie and others of it’s type. I trust you I am not. I feel like now that I’m getting older, there is a limited number of movies left to watch, and I hate to waste one on drivel like this. It just did not touch me at all. As nice it is to see Scarlett Johansson prance around naked a couple of times, she does that on Instagram anyway, and it’s not worth the investment here. There’s nothing going here, at all.
