Melissa (Naomi Watts) and Richie (Matt Dillon) are a Florida couple living in squalor and barely making ends meet. Richie is a quadriplegic and is unemployed while Melissa has a minimum wage job working as a clerk in a mini-mart. They’re just scraping by when Melissa finds out she’s pregnant and things look like they are turning up. But Melissa loses her job and her ex Justin (Norman Reedus) is stalking her and things take a much bigger turn for the worse.

This is a disturbing and depressing film that has some good and some bad. On the good side, the cast is very good. Naomi Watts especially does a splendid job pulling this off. The problem is that it’s really a downer. This is one of those films that take a couple in trouble and just turn on the camera and let it run. There’s not a real point here, other than how pointless it is. Although I suppose it realistic that people in a situation like this are not likely going to get any better. I just tend to dislike movies that have no purpose and just don’t go anywhere. This one doesn’t. There isn’t any reason to hate this movie, but at the same time, there’s not much going for it either. It’s very ordinary. Pass this one by.
