There are a bunch of new films debuting at the theaters this week. “Argo” is Ben Afflecks new drama based on the true story of how six of the hostages from the embassy in Iran were rescued by the Canadian embassy. I remember this story in the news, and actually have a letter from the Canadian government in response to a thank you letter I sent them for the assistance in rescuing these folks. Here is the story of how it was done. “Sinister” is another of these found footage films about an evil presence that is terrorizing a family. Good Halloween stuff! “Here Comes the Boom” is another wide release about a high school which is in financial trouble, and in order to save the extra-curricular sports program, a teacher turns to the only thing he knows how to do to save the programs, extreme mixed martial arts fighting! This is a comedy featuring Kevin James. “Seven Psychopaths” is a funny film with a lot of stars about a screen writer who gets mixed up with the mob, and requires his friends to band together to try to pull him out of trouble. “Smashed” is a story of a couple who are heavy drinkers who’s life together is put to the test when the wife decides to sober up. “Atlas Shrugged Part 2” is the sequel to the science fiction film “Atlas Shrugged”. It is about the world on the brink of disaster due to a failed economy and the fight to save the world from the evil corporations. “War of the Buttons” is a French WWII movie about a Frenchman who is concerned about a young Jewish girl who is in danger from the Nazis and it causes him to take a closer look at what’s going on around him. “Nobody Walks” starring John Krasinski is about a family who is threatened after taking in a young woman so she can finish her art film. “Middle of Nowhere” tells of a lady who drops out of medical school when her husband is incarcerated for 8 years. Finally, “Grave Encounters 2” is a bit of a homage to the original “Grave Encounters”. The original film was about a psychiatric hospital where horrible events took place. Well a film student has become obsessed with the film, and especially those who don’t believe that it’s real, so he sets out to try to validate the things that happened in the first film.
