Ok, I listed about 10% of the cast.    I don’t know if I’ll still have room for the review.  🙂    Never since It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, have they hauled out this many stars for a single movie.  If you’ve never seen that one (how could you not?), go get it. It’s a lot funnier than this is.

Of course it was made to be seen on Valentines Day, and it was made in LA, so it’s more of a Valentine present to LA than to the public.   This is a lot of fluff mixed in with a lot of sweet, a lot of tears, a lot of hearbreak, a lot of “Aw gee” moments.  There are a zillion stories going on, and you have to try to follow all of them.  Every trick in the book is going to be used to bring everyone together in the end.  But bring them together they do.

If this film suffers from anything, it’s from trying to do TOO MUCH.  Maybe a couple of the stories could have been left out, and it would be a little easier to follow.  But since they put them in, you just have to try to follow.

All stages of love are represented here.  And they all end up fitting together.  It’s not classic film making and it’s not deep or thought provoking, but it is a delightful romantic comedy.  If you hate romantic comedies, then you might be one of the haters of this film.  But if you don’t expect Sheakespear, and just go with the flow, it’s a cute, suprisingly funny little Valentines Day romp that will not disappoint.

Stage 6 Films, Insight Film Studios

Cuba Gooding, Val Kilmer, Michael Ironside

Hardwired is a solid “Very Long Wait” film on Netflix, but as some guy said in a review,  a very long wait does not necessarily make it a great film.  A lot of people hated this movie, and I think I can understand their reasoning.

It’s very science fiction, and it’s been done…with the evil corporations and rebel individual who tries to fight the establishment.  Cuba Gooding wasn’t fabulous in this film, but he didn’t suck either.  It’s a Canadian film, which is fine, but it’s not real big budget and there are some silly premises that wouldn’t cut it in a big budget Hollywood film, but it was interesting and it is an interesting premise.  A man was in a car accident and should have died.  Because he had no ObamaCare, he was saved by the previously mentioned “evil corporation” as a test subject.  Turns out they’re implanting recievers in peoples brain to sell advertising space.  After all, they’re running out of places to put up billboards, so why not in our heads? Well, naturally Cuba doesn’t buy their products, and the chase is on.

I went in not expecting a lot, and I wasn’t disappointed.  I enjoyed the time I spent watching it, and though it isn’t great, it was ok.  I like science fiction films, and the action was pretty good, and the chases didn’t suck.  I bought the concept and just watched and enjoyed the ride.  If you are not too critical and not looking for the best picture nominee, then you might enjoy this one too.  I definitely did.

John Travolta, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Kasia Smutniak

“From Paris with Love” is an action, buddy flick with John Travolta as the “bad” good guy and his buddy – unsuspecting, embassy aid turned hit man – Jonathan Rhys Meyers. Rhy Meyers starts receiving phone calls from a caller, telling him to do things, and next thing you know he is hooked up with John Travolta’s character, Wax. Bloodshed and mayhem ensure – big guns, good car chases – until the pivotal moment when Rhy Meyers proves he is a confident man instead of a sniveling office worker.

Now that the iron curtain countries are no longer a threat seems like every action movie has terrorists as bad guys; this time it is Pakistanis. There are some good twists related to a girlfriend, but that was the biggest surprise in this movie. Some of the car scenes were really well done and engaging plus the dialog was good.

I tried, but just can’t buy John Travolta as a bad guy in “With Love from Paris.” He is much better in movies like Michael or even remotely believable in Wild Hogs, but in this movie and Swordfish he just tries too try hard to be bad. I think I would have enjoyed seeing Rhy Meyers are the bad guy. The movie would have been more believable for me.

Overall I enjoyed this movie and am glad I watched it based on Ed’s recommendation.
