This is a romantic Christmas comedy about two children in New York City who are depressed because their parents have divorced. But Hallie (Thora Birch), the little girl asks Santa for her Christmas wish that her parents get married again, she forgot to specify that they marry each other. When Hallie overhears Mom planning to remarry to Tony (Kevin Nealon) they freak out and plan an elaborate scheme to kidnap Tony and to force their parents to spend Christmas together in the hopes that they’ll fall in love all over again.
This is a fairly simple romantic comedy. This was a theatrical release in 1991, not the TV movie from 2007 which is another popular TV film. This one is a lot harder to find on TV. But it is available on DVD. The story is not very original, but it’s a nice friendly little Christmas film which gives us exactly what it promises to. Because it was a feature film, it’s a little better than most in the cinematography and editing. Two priceless gems in this film are Lauren Bacall as grandmother Lillian Brooks and Leslie Nielsen as Santa. The kids are very cute, and Kevin Nealon, though his part is small is relatively funny! It’s beautiful and very warm, and so it’s just what you’d want in a holiday romance film with a stunning happy ending for everyone. What more could you wish for.
