I was completely set to HATE this movie.  It has everything in it to hate.  Talking dogs and cats with the CGI mouth movements,  Owen Wilson as the dog, George Lopez as the cat, animals that can understand their owners(and each other), but humans that can’t understand the animals, comics made into feature films, and even dancing dogs.  It should have been a disaster.

But it wasn’t.  I loved this story! It is really clever, very funny, and every moment is enjoyable.  Yes, it’s derivative, but it has to be.  But it’s also pretty fresh.  Marmaduke is a lovable guy, and his attempts to try to fit in his new life in the O.C. (after moving from Kansas) is hysterical.   This is a live action movie, not a cartoon, and is very well done.   The animal trainers are awesome, and the CGI is not overdone or too tacky.

Trust me, if you have little ones, or pre-teens, they’re going to love this movie.  And if you’re a dog lover, you’re going to like this movie.  The gags are funny, and it has just enough heart, but not too sappy.  It’s a fine film, and I really enjoyed it very much!
