Pure Flix Entertainment,

Kevin Sorbo, Teri Polo, Tamera Mowry, Della Reese, Izabela Vidovic, Victoria Wolsefer

LIttle girl Oliva (Izabela Vidovic) has but one wish for Christmas. She wants a new Dad and husband for her Mom (Teri Polo). Across the street is an old boarded up house that the kids think is a “wishing house”. When you break a window with a stone after making a wish, and the wish will come true. But when a young doctor shows up who owns the house, Mom decides to fix the place up a bit, decorate it for Christmas, and install a “wish box” on the front gate to stop all the windows from being broken. But when the wishes start coming true, and the kids see a strange old woman appearing inside the house, they begin to wonder if perhaps it’s an angel at work here.

Not to be confused with the 2006 “Christmas Angel” [Click here for Ed’s review] , this is a brand new for 2012 Made for TV movie. It will premier later in November, but for now, it’s available on DVD, and can be purchased on Amazon.com or even seen via Watch Instantly on Netflix. This is a Christian film, but the message is very subtle. Also starring the incredible Della Reese, the lady with a secret, it’s a wonderful family film. It does show the troubles and pleasures of childhood Christmases. It has a wonderful message about faith and trust, and the importance of charity and the family. It’s a very good film for the whole family to enjoy.

This is a great addition to the mass of holiday films that are shown year after year. I can see this one popping up for years to come. It’s a nice story, and an excellent film to share with the kids.

ImageMovers, Paramount Pictures, Parkes/MacDonald Productions,

Denzel Washington, John Goodman, Don Cheadle, Melissa Leo, Brian Geraghty, Bruce Greenwood, Kelly Reilly, Tamara Tunie, Garcelle Beauvais, James Badge Dale, Rhoda Griffis, Kwesi Boakye, Michael Beasley, Adam Tomei

Whip Whittaker (Denzel Washington) is an ace airline pilot. But he has a serious addiction problem, drugs and alcohol. On a flight from Orlando to Atlanta, something awful happens to the plane, and everyone on-board is doomed were it not for the unbelievable moves Whip makes to crash the plane but save the lives of hundreds of people. He is hailed as a hero, and hounded by the media, but his condition at the time of his heroic moves come into question as the NTSB investigates the crash.

This is a very serious film. Aside from a few moments when John Goodman is on-screen, there’s very few light moments in this film. Whip is on a dive for rock bottom more severe than the plane’s dive! He is in serious denial, and yet, as despicable as he is, we get to really like him. The first 20 minutes or so of the flight is extremely well done, and very well filmed. It’s white knuckle time for sure, and very good. But then we get introduced to a slew of new characters, all of which seem to have Whip’s well being in mind. The drama is just as suspenseful as the action part. Whip is really screwed up, and Denzel’s portrayal of this guy is spot on.

This movie is a trip. I was really caught off-guard by the turn this film took. I expected an airline disaster movie, which was really a sidebar to the real subject of the film. It’s a disaster movie alright, but a disaster of a life rocked by denial and lies upon lies. Very dramatic, and very realistic, and very dark and sad. It’s not an easy film to watch, but a very well done character study, and very much worth watching.

Chesler/Perlmutter Productions,

Gabriel Hogan, Ben Mulroney, Brittany Adams, Natasha Henstridge, Ramona Milano, Kent Nolan, Amanda Marie Thomson

A school district merged two schools and the two music teachers come to realize that one of them will be let go. An idea comes up to hold a competition on a local TV station between the two choirs, and whichever wins, their teacher will be spared. So the competition is on, and it’s all holds barred. But there may be more at stake than just a teaching position in this brand new Christmas film, made for TV.

This is a fairly simple little story, but in keeping with the spirit of the season. It reminds me of Glee a bit, but it’s a bit slow. There’s not a lot going on, but it’s a decent made for TV show. It has a bit of the old Christmas spirit and is interesting enough. If you like a little romantic comedy, mixed with some Christmas music and a little holiday magic, you could do much worse. At least it’s new, and something we haven’t seen before.

Crystal Sky, SP Chilly Christmas,

Tom Arnold, C. Thomas Howell, Brooke Langton, Casey Graf, Karan Brar

Bobby has a special dog that he has for a companion. Life with his single Dad in Hawaii is awesome, and Bobby is very happy, but when his Dad gets a job as a detective in New York City, it’s clear that Chilly Christmas has to go. Bobby’s job is to find a home for him, while Dad tries to crack one last case of a band of dog thieves that steal valuable pets for sale on the black market. Will Bobby and his friends be able to teach Chilly how to be an apartment dog? It’s tough when a dog as big as Chilly loves to run around outside.

This is a typical holiday film, and new one on DVD for this year. It’s a cute film, and probably one that the younger kids will love. However, it’s very predictable, and will remind you of other films, especially “101 Dalmatians” with Tom Arnold as Cruella DeVil! Basically the story is very similar to lots of other movies, so it fails on the originality scale. Also, it’s being marketed as a Christmas film, but though Chilly Christmas is a Christmas gift in the first 5 minutes, after that there is no real mention of the holidays. Essentially this could take place at any time of the year

Still, it’s a nice film for the youngsters who will love the action and the adventure, and the dog. It will resonate with their “kidness” and they’ll probably enjoy it. There’s nothing bad about this film, and it’s a decent family film if you’re in the mood for that. Just don’t expect an really original story, because it just isn’t.
