Chesler/Perlmutter Productions,

Andrew McCarthy, Michelle Nolden, Stephanie Mills, Mary Long, Zachary Bennett, Chris Gillett, Jane Moffat, Kyle Mac

Jack (Andrew McCarthy is an executive in a financial firm, and wants to impress his girlfirend’s father who owns the firm in the hope of a big promotion. He decides to take dancing lessons in order to impress him at the Christmas Party, but in his rush to learn the waltz, sparks begin to fly between Jack and the dance instructor Christine (Michelle Nolden) which completely fouls up the works!

I have to say that six minutes in this film lost me. I tried hard to get back into it, but I just couldn’t get interested. I’m not sure why it just did not click, and it could be me, but I was bored, bored, bored. The chemistry wasn’t there with either girl. The whole premise stuck me as dumb, and I can’t imagine a guy who thinks he should get a big promotion because he learned how to count to 3 over and over again. Now, I do not automatically hate chick flicks. In fact, anyone who follows Ed’s Review knows that I have a soft spot a mile wide. But for some reason, this movie just did not make it for me. Now I’ll give you that sometimes it depends on your mood at the time. I can buy that, but I just finished watching a very warm and touching film that I really enjoyed. Then a few hours later watching this one, I just sort of zoned out on it. I heard every word, but didn’t process a lot of it, cause I just didn’t care. The biggest complaints I have is that the story didn’t grab me, the chemistry wasn’t there, and the performances didn’t make me care about the characters. So I would be happy to have skipped this one I’m afraid

** Christmas Miracle

Nasser Group, North,

Allison Hossack, Aaron Pearl, Dan Payne, David Nykl, Valin Shinyei, Lori Ann Triolo, Randal Edwards, Siobhan Williams, George Canyon

It was a snowy Christmas Eve and the storm is blowing snow all over the place. On a somewhat remote road, a car comes upon a spot where the road is blocked by a fallen tree. Very quickly, other cars come to a screeching halt in the freezing cold and snow. There are eight strangers, stranded late on Christmas Eve. One of the group knows of an abandoned church just a short way down the road where they can get inside from the snow and cold, and wait for morning. Through the night, a series of issues and problems arise forcing the strangers to get to know one another and help each other. By working together, each learns a little about themselves and what is important to them.

This was a very, very well done Christmas movie. Each of the parties has a story of their own of what is hard in their life. In order to survive, they must work together, and in the process each can see what is really important. It’s a film with Christian overtones, but is not preachy. It’s more filled with good common sense, and standard human values of what is right and wrong. Though they have to face a lot of personal and natural problems, they all end up a lot better off for having spent the night fighting the elements together. This movie will make you feel good. It was indeed a Christmas Miracle, and is heartwarming. Though it’s a fairly simple story, the way it’s told is very beautiful. It shows that people are naturally good, and can rise to the occasion when they need to. I really enjoyed this new DVD, and was very glad I searched for this one. I picked it for the title, and because it is a Christmas film, but was deeply touched by the story and would gladly watch this one again and again. I highly recommend this one.

** An Angel for Christmas

Blye Migicovsky Productions, Jaffa Road Management Ltd., Phoenix Animation Studios,

Colette Stevenson, Melissa Bathory, Don Francks, Edward Glen, Nonnie Griffin, Benji Plener, Paul Haddad, Jacelyn Holmes, James Rankin

The little town of Ironsville is ruled by a mean mayor named D.D.Kovet who has outlawed Christmas. He feels Christmas is a waste of time, money, and hurts productivity. A little peasant girl shows up in town and tries to sell sprigs of holly for holiday decoration, but no one is interested in defying the law. She lives in the forest and has a wolf for a friend, but a few of the children in the town want to bring her home and feed her. They learn about the wonders of Christmas and decide to help her spread Christmas cheer to the town.

This is a full length (45 minutes) holiday cartoon TV special. It’s not very well known, but it’s a charming story and the character voices are very well suited. It’s a pleasant story, and very refreshing. Needless to say, the mean old mayor who hates Christmas has been done before, but this one does it very well. Sure to be enjoyed by kids and grownups alike, this is a very nice Christmas story that is easily streamed, or available on DVD for Christmas, and is a very worthwhile story. This is a very well done film, and very worthwhile.

Warner Bros., Legendary Pictures, Disney Double Dare You (DDY),

Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Ron Perlman, Charlie Day, Burn Gorman, Clifton Collins Jr., Robert Maillet, Max Martini, Robert Kazinsky

Alien monsters have arrived, but not in a space ship. These buglike monsters crawled out of the Teutonic plate under the Pacific Ocean. They were horrific foes, but the humans managed to beat back the first wave, but now they’re back much smarter and stronger. The only way they have been able to fight these monsters is with giant robotic weapon know as a Jaeger. These Kaiju are strong enough to defeat a human, but when two humans meld their minds into a single bridge, they can control the Jaeger and fight back. But when things get nearly hopeless, the world has to depend on a washed up old fighter Raleigh Becket (Charlie Hunnam) and young untested fighter named Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi). This unusual pair may be the worlds final hope.

First off, this is just not my type of movie. I watch my sons, and my grandsons, with their eyes open wide watching the latest Transformers mega-movie. And I sit there wishing it were over. They just don’t appeal to me. If you’re a fan of this kind of film, then I suspect this must be a very good one. The fact is that this movie did very well at the box office. It’s action packed, and full of great alien explosions and lots of death and destruction. It’s a BIG movie, made for IMAX, for sure. I found myself a little bored with the whole story, as there isn’t a lot going on other than blowing up aliens and such, but for people who love that kind of excitement, it has tons of action. Everything is done is a big way, and the creatures are very awesome CGI monsters, and they do pursue the brain melding thing that brings up a few interesting plot journeys. But mostly it’s action, action, and more action. If you’re a fan of this type of big explosive movies, then this is one you ought not to miss. For me, it was ok, but not something I would have missed had I not seen it.
