Davis Entertainment, Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation,

Allison Miller, Zach Gilford, Catherine Kresge, Robert Belushi, Aimee Carrero, Tyler Forrest, Griff Furst, Yohance Myles

Samantha (Allison Miller) and Jack (Zach Gilford) are a young newlywed couple, very much in love, and headed off on their honeymoon to the Dominican Republic. After a last night of partying, and getting lost, a taxi driver takes them to one last party before the flight home in the morning. Next morning they wake up in their hotel room with no idea how they got back or what happened the night before. After returning home and to their normal lives, Sam discovers she is expecting. But as the baby develops, Sam changes her mood rapidly and it soon becomes obvious that there is something seriously wrong going on here.

Oh my gosh, I got tricked into another damn found footage movie. There needs to be a law, like the warning label on cigarettes, a warning informing you that you’re not going in to watch a real movie, but a cheaply made handheld shaky cam nausea inducing high school AV crew movie. I was so desperately disappointed in this film. I am a fan of horror, as you probably already know, and I’m not too hard to please, but this was such a shame. There is a really good opportunity for a horror movie here, and the chance was wasted. The premise was good, the story was ok, but the execution was awful. The shaky handheld bit is so boring at this point. It’s been done to death. This has so much running around carrying the camera that it makes you sick watching it. Every shortcut they could take in storytelling was used. I felt sorry for the primary actors in this film, as they were trying very hard. I would have been so happy to just have a movie instead of a family home video version of this story. There were so many other films I could have chosen that I really resent that I got sucked into another one of these rip-off “Let’s just use our cell phone to make a movie” films. I recommend you avoid this one and wait for something worth watching.

The Kingdom is under a curse because of the loss of the Christmas Star. But a little orphan girl Sonja (Vilde Zeiner) sets out on a long dangerous journey to find the star and save the Kingdom. Along her journey she meets a number of interesting characters both good and wicked in this live action fairy tale Christmas movie from Norway.

This was a very pleasant surprise. I have seen a gaggle of horrible Christmas stories that are done on a teeny budget, with very low quality and nothing anyone but a Christmas junkie like me, or a little kid is going to sit through. This is an excellently produced film. Little Sonja is an excellent heroine, but the beautiful photography and locations, the scenery is stunning. The wintry scenes at the North Pole are gorgeous, but the scenes in the castle and with the witch are beautiful sets as well. The action is exciting, the story is very well written, the views are spectacular, and it’s highly exciting to watch. This is a very well done foreign film, and one that is certainly worth watching. This would have been interesting in the original Norwegian with English subtitles, but for the sake of the kids who are too young to watch the film and reading subtitles, it was wisely dubbed. Many folks complain about the mouth not matching the dialog, but it’s certainly understandable why they choose this route. If you like this type of fantasy fairy tale story, this one is very worth watching. I actually caught it this year on Watch Instantly on NetFlix, but it’s well worth watching. I wish I had found this one before the holidays as it would have been great to see it in season. This is one I can recommend.

KODA Entertainment,

Justin Long, Tyler Labine, Jess Weixler, Addison Timlin, Frances O’Connor, Shelley Long, Evan Jones, Michael Landes, Peter Syvertsen, James Detmar

Lumpy (Tyler Labine) is a wild guy, overly loud and obnoxious and best friend of Scott (Justin Long) and his new bride Kristin (Jess Wixler). Lumpy overdoes it as usual and messes up their wedding reception, but shocks everyone by dropping dead overnight. Scott and Kristin have to call off their honeymoon to go back to Minneapolis in the middle of winter to bury Lumpy. But as they try to put the event together, they learn that there was a lot more to their friend than they ever knew, and he was leading an entirely different life than they ever knew.

This was a rather surprising and off-beat movie. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I suspected Tyler to over play the loud and obnoxious friend, but he did one of the best performances in the film. There were other interesting characters that made the story better as it went along. In fact, Justin and Jess played the leads in this film, and they were shallow, annoying, and somewhat boring throughout, and were the weakest part of the movie. As I stated in the beginning, I wasn’t expecting a lot from this film, and so I was not sorry I watched it. Truthfully it was better told than I expected. Lumpy, who really is the main character in the story, dies in the beginning, but his life and times are the heart of the story. As such, it’s a story of a guy John Candy like…the lovable loser, even though he isn’t around that long. So the movie is a decent rental, not a great film, but well worth the time watching it on video. It’s a little different, and so that keeps your interest. I can mildly recommend this as a rental, and I did enjoy watching it.
