Trish (Mary Stuart Masterson) and her young niece Patsy (Lauren Pratt) are pickpockets.  And they’re very good at it.  Patsy knows how to pull out all the stops when caught and can melt the coldest of hearts.  But when they get caught in the department store on Christmas Eve, the owner wants to press charges.  But it’s Christmas Eve, so he doesn’t want them separated for Christmas so security guard Bert (Mark Ruffalo) is assigned to keep them in custody until the 26th.   Bert has to go home for Christmas, so the only choice is to bring them along.  Trish and Patsy have it in their mind to escape and Bert has to use all his wits to survive the holiday.

This is an unusual Christmas story.   The humor isn’t over the top, it’s more just clever stuff that makes you chuckle, but not laugh out loud.  Likewise the drama is not really intense as well, but more tongue in cheek.  All in all it’s a cute story, but it’s not perfect.  It’s not too deep, so if you’re looking for something interesting to pass the time, this is a decent piece of light fare for the holidays!
