Shannon (Andrea Roth) is a single mom who has lost both her parents. She’s a limo driver and raising her little boy Trevor (Jason Spevack). Fred Nickells (Howard Hesseman) is a loopy elderly businessman who rents Shannon’s limo and has her drive him around all day long buying out hot dog carts to feed everyone for free, passing out money, and wishing everyone a merry christmas. Peter Archer (Yannick Bisson) is a TV reporter who catches word of the stranger giving away money and begins following the limo around to find out why and to file an interesting story. Nobody can figure out the crazy man’s motive and whether he’s actually dangerous or something. But Mr. Nickells has an ulterior motive and an mysterious story to tell if anyone will take the time to listen to what he has to say.
Crazy for Christmas is one of my favorite Christmas TV movies. I have seen it many times, but somehow I missed it last year and did not review it. I was really happy when this showed up on TV again this year. This is a heartfelt Christmas story about a man who has lost the most precious things in life seeking after the wrong goals. Howard Hesseman is so fabulous in this film. I really enjoy his enthusiastic role in wishing everyone a Merry Christmas in dozens of different languages. When the ending arrives, it is one of the most touching moments in any of the movies I’ve seen. I really love this one, and it’s a quirky story that is really worth seeking out. I highly recommend this one.
